Sony surprised many people at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona on Sunday when it announced the launch of a new Xperia Z4 10.1-inch tablet with 2K display.

The company billed the new tablet as the "world's slimmest and lightest tablet."

Tablets from Sony have not done well in terms of sales. Sony made it clear that it was rectifying the flaws that plagued its earlier tablets. Sony did this by creating a thin tablet measuring 6.1 mm and with a bright 2K screen. The new Xperia Z4 also features a stainless steel frame and mineral glass with plastic on its back panel.

The 10.1-inch display has a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels and a density of 300 pixels per inch. In addition, the screen has Triluminos technology and is powered by the X-Reality Mobile engine.

The company also used the latest Qualcomm's chip, the 64-bit Snapdragon 810, in the Xperia Z4. The chip is coupled with four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5GHz. For the tablet's GPU, Sony opted for the Adreno 430. As for RAM there is 3GB onboard. As for its internal storage, the tablet will ship with 32 GB and it also has a memory slot which can be used to add external storage of up to 128 GB.

As for its camera, the Xperia Z4 has an 8.1-megapixel version at its rear and a 5.1-megapixel version in front. As for its battery, it has a 6,000 mAh version. Sony claimed that this battery will be able to provide 17 hours of video playback.

As with previous Sony devices, this tablet is waterproof and comes with an IP65 water resistant and IP68 dust resistant rating, which means it can be safely dipped into 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes. Sony has again made the tablet gamer-friendly. Users will be able to play PS4 games stored on a console, and, in addition, a Dualshock 4 controller can be added to it.
