'XCOM 2' news, updates: 'XCOM 2' gets an overhaul with 'Long War 2'; mod now available on Steam Workshop
"X-COM" was good. Who doesn't like to shoot pesky Ethereals in the face before they can use their psionic abilities? But there was something missing. The game was too short. Some people may say it's a long, complex game, but hardcore gamers managed to breeze through it in a number of days. Sure, it has a lot of replay value, but a long campaign would have been preferred.
But then a team of modders found the perfect way to turn a good game into a great one. They expanded the game and reinvented it by adding new concepts to make it more "realistic" and challenging. The mod is called "Long War," and it is a truly legendary mod that every "X-COM" players should have.
When "XCOM 2" came out. Hardcore gamers had to face the same problems with the length of the game. The game was also disappointingly short. Yes, it was good, but it feels very brief especially when players have to race against time due to the Avatar Program. However, "XCOM 2" players are about to get something they have been waiting for since the game came out — a "Long War" mod for the sequel.
Official called "Long War 2," the mod is now available on the "XCOM 2" Steam Workshop. It's also available on NexusMods. The mod adds a number of things to the game including new classes, items, abilities, and enemies. As expected, there are also major changes in gameplay.
Brad Chacos of PCWorld thinks this is the mod that fans have been waiting for.
"Long War 2 expands the already widened scope of XCOM 2 dramatically. Expect to deploy on more than 100 missions during the campaign now, including eight new mission types ranging from jailbreaks to defending your resistance Havens," Chacos said in his article on "Long War 2."
Once again, the team behind the mod has done a great job by expanding an already good game.
