Xbox One Backward Compatibility news: 'Toy Story 3,' 'Guwange,' and 'Lost Odyssey' now playable on Xbox One
Microsoft's Backward Compatibility Program has just added three "old" games to its lineup this month. Action-packed games, which were once only playable on the Xbox 360, can now also be enjoyed on the Xbox One.
Larry Hyrb, director of programming for Xbox Live and more popularly known by her gamertag "Major Nelson," tweeted on Thursday, Sept. 29, that "Toy Story 3," "Guwange," and "Lost Odyssey" have all joined the growing roster of backward compatible games.
When the Xbox One console was first made backward compatible last year, it came with a list of 100 Xbox 360 titles that were supported by the newly launched program. Today, the list has grown to an impressive 250 different titles. The numbers are expected to increase significantly, especially since Xbox's Games with Gold service often feature new backward compatible titles each month.
"Toy Story 3" was released on Nov. 2, 2010 and was roughly based on the film of the same title. It was playable on a number of gaming consoles including the Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and Playstation Portable. It was also considered to be the last Disney-based game ever developed for the PlayStation 2. The game is about Woody's quest to free his friends from the Sunnyside daycare and to hopefully make It back home to an all-grown up Andy.
"Guwange" is a vertical scrolling shooter game released in Japan on Nov. 10, 2010 for the Xbox 360. It was first released as an arcade game in 1999 and as a mobile game in 2003. The game is set in the Muromachi period when people were often possessed by ghosts known as the shikigami and die exactly a year from the onset of the possession. The effect can be reversed, however, by completing a quest which would ultimately lead to the slaying of the malevolent god named Guwange.
"Lost Odyssey" is a role-playing game set in an alternate world that's undergoing a magical industrial revolution. It was first released in Japan in 2007 by Microsoft Game Studios for the Xbox 360. International release followed a year later in 2008. The protagonist, Kaim, an immortal suffering from amnesia, has to contend with the threat brought about by the revolution, while also having to deal with the gradual and painful of return of his memories.
These new additions to the Backward Compatibility programs are available for purchase for the Xbox One.
