'X-Men Apocalypse' Release Date, Cast News: Ben Hardy to Play Important Mysterious Role
Ben Hardy, star of the British soap opera "EastEnders," is currently in talks for a yet-to-be-revealed role in the most-awaited "X-Men Apocalypse."
Hardy, who plays Peter Beale in the hit U.K. series, was first rumored to play the role of Angel. However, some insiders said he will be cast in another important role that is still hidden in the bag.
The actor – represented by WME, Untitled Entertainment and Creative Artists Management in London – was among those who tested for the role of a young Cyclops. The character eventually went to Tye Sheridan.
If indeed Hardy will play an important role in the film, he will join returning cast members Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), James McAvoy (Professor X), and Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert).
The movie's titular villain, Apocalypse, will be played by Oscar Isaac.
Hardy will also join newcomers Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler).
Representatives for Twentieth Century Fox and Hardy cannot be immediately reached for comment.
Meanwhile, Bryan Singer, the director of "X-Men: Apocalypse," recently treated X-Men fans to another behind-the-scenes look at the film, iDigitalTimes reported.
In his Instagram account, Singer shared the new designs for Professor X's Cerebro with the caption: "Working on designs from home a month ago. Getting ready for the long-haul in Montreal."
Teasers for the plot has yet to be revealed, but writer Simon Kinberg told Collider last October that "Apocalypse" will finish the "First Class" trilogy.
Kinberg also said he is interested in focusing on Mystique's relationship with the other X-Men characters in "Apocalypse," adding that her story has a big impact on the film.
"Part of what's really interesting about Mystique's character is that she is, in some ways, the child of both Erik and Charles," Kinberg said. "She grew up with Charles and then she sort of became a woman with Erik, so her being the cross-pollination, if you will, of those two philosophies and those two men is something we can explore in the movie, too."
Principal photography for "X-Men: Apocalypse" is set for April this year.
The comic book movie will hit cinemas on May 27, 2016.
