WWE Rumors 2016: Three new champions for WWE Backlash
It was certainly a big day for the fans of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) especially the SmackDown Live brand as the pay-per-view event "Backlash" saw three new champions on Sept. 12.
In a report released by Uproxx, the night saw eight different matches take place, with Baron Corbin battling Apollo Crews in the kick-off match.
Next was the first battle of the night's main show, with a six-pack challenge to determine who would win the first ever Smackdown Live Women's Championship.
Bleacher Report followed Becky Lynch's victorious route to earn the championship, beating Carmella to win the title as the last woman standing. Lynch got the chance to lock in her finishing move Disarm-Her to get the victory from Carmella.
The second champion of the night was the unlikely tandem of Heath Slater and Rhyno who defeated The Usos in the Tag Team Tournament finals.
The Usos fought earlier in the night, defeating The Hype Bros to earn the right to face Slater and Rhyno.
It was a great battle but one that was ultimately won by the newly formed tag team, much to the delight of the fans.
Finally, the biggest fight of the night was the WWE Championship battle between Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles.
Coming in, Ambrose had the title and looked to add Styles to his list of victims, but Styles proved to be a tough opponent to take out.
However, it took an accidental bump to the referee that gave Styles the small opening to hit Ambrose with a low blow. He then followed it up with his finishing move, the Styles Clash, to pin Ambrose and win the title.
It was a night filled with intense action and excitement and it certainly helped the brand with the news champions that they have because they are clearly fan favorites.
