WWE Rumors: James Ellsworth given an unlikely push by the company
As with a lot of things, the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is continuing to push the unlikely events that receive cult following.
It happened with the partnership of Rhyno and Heath Slater. As proof, they are now Tag Team Champions.
This time, the WWE is giving the spotlight to another unlikely superstar, James Ellsworth.
Ellsworth was just supposed to be another name in the list of victims for big-named superstars. He was placed against Braun Strowman on Monday Night Raw, but now finds himself in a rivalry against current World Champion A.J. Styles.
From a no-namer, Ellsworth now has his own entrance theme, a massive following and even merchandise that is popular among fans.
In fact, Inquisitr mentioned that Ellsworth's shirts are outselling Goldberg's despite the hype behind the latter's return to the WWE.
Ellsworth's popularity is coming from an organic place, where fans see someone who they can relate to as a superstar who can battle against the best in the world.
The star looks and plays the part of a regular person, with a somewhat awkward look; and that is exactly what fans find relatable.
With that, many are wondering whether the push is a good idea and if the company should continue doing so.
It is obvious that Ellsworth will not win any championships and will not dominate the industry for a long time, but he does present a fresh new concept that people will swallow up until it runs its course.
The WWE has forced stars like Roman Reigns who is still working his way to becoming as popular as John Cena, but when personalities like Ellsworth drop on their laps they should just continue to ride along the wave.
At the moment, the SmackDown Live brand still needs to make up some ground to be as big as Raw, and gimmicks like having Ellsworth on board should be maximized. The WWE seems to be doing a good job at the moment.
