2016 is about to come to a close, but before the WWE ends the year with a bang, Kevin Owens will have to put the WWE Universal title on the line as he faces Roman Reigns at the WWE Roadblock on Dec. 18. The pay-per-view event is going to be held at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and it is rumored that Owens may retain the title thanks to some interference from best buddy Chris Jericho. Or is it former best buddy?

Daily DDT has pointed out that Owens has to win to set up a potential feud with Jericho on WrestleMania 33 in April. The two of them may be allies right now, but they don't always see eye-to-eye and their relationship appears to be dissolving week after week. Now, who wouldn't want to see two polarizing figures battle each other for the WWE Universal title?

Speaking of polarizing figures, the publication also noted that a win by Reigns could actually hurt him that's why Owens is going to keep the belt. Okay, let's face it. Fans just love to hate Reigns. He's been getting the John Cena treatment for some time now and he can get people talking even if they react negatively. However, a Reign win would make the fans resent him even more and this would make it harder for the company to promote him as one of their top wrestlers.

Meanwhile, Forbes' Blake Oestriecher has noted that they should just end the Owen vs. Reigns feud after the WWE Roadblock since it's getting repetitive. He does have a point here because the two already fought a number of times in the past few months. He also pointed out that the three main event bouts on WWE Roadblock feature wrestlers who have already fought each other multiple times.

"It's a major turnoff to fans, who are sick of the same old stories and want to see something fresh, new and exciting. But instead, Raw feels like a bad case of deja vu, where something you see on one episode is bound to happen again in the near future," Oestriecher said.
