'Wayward Pines' season 3 air date, plot spoilers: Peace between humans and Abbies possible 3rd season storyline?
There is no official confirmation from Fox yet regarding the renewal of "Wayward Pines" for its third season, but the people behind the series are optimistic that it will see the light of day.
Fox CEO Dana Walden has previously said the show tops the list of the network's scripted shows for the summer, and with ratings as the catalyst by which a TV series is renewed or canceled, it looks like "Wayward Pines" season 3 could happen. According to Zap2It's TV by the Numbers, the season 2 finale of the show drew 2.22 million viewers for a 0.7% ratings and 3% audience share in the 18-49 demographics in its 9 p.m. timeslot.
Come to think of it, the series is based off Blake Crouch's best-selling trilogy, "Pines," which is probably why executive producer M. Night Shyamalan is reported to have drawn the storyline for the show's third season. Apparently, season 3 will see humans and Abbies living peacefully together a thousand years after Dr. Theo Yadlin (Jason Patric) and the rest of the citizens of the idyllic town went to sleep.
For her part, Walden says she's gone over "Wayward Pines" season 3's storyline, and she thinks there's a "compelling" reason to continue the show. There are rumors that Walden is already holding meetings with the showrunners and director of the series to see which direction it's going.
The second season of the series ended in a way that has opened up various possibilities for the upcoming installment, so fans could expect something good in the coming months. For instance, one of the final scenes of the season 2 finale showed an Abby holding what looked like a human baby, and many are assuming the scene will have a bearing on season 3's storyline.
At any rate, should Fox give "Wayward Pines" season 3 the green light, fans should expect it to start airing summer of 2017.
