Washington Wizards trade rumors 2016: Marcin Gortat still has a future with the team?
After already losing Nene this season, the Washington Wizards are not ready to give up on Marcin Gortat as the big man remains in the team's plans.
Recently, it was reported that the Brazilian big man was signed by the Houston Rockets which saw him out of the Wizards after joining in 2012.
The deal is worth $2.9 million and will last for one year as Nene hopes to revive his career with the Western Conference team.
Houston settled for Nene after losing big man Dwight Howard to the Atlanta Hawks, and Nene will undoubtedly be relied on for points down the post and for rebounding purposes.
Now, the Wizards still got a big man to make up for the loss of the Brazilian, with Washington recently signing Ian Mahinmi from the Indiana Pacers.
The Wizards gave Mahinmi a four-year, $64 million deal and hope that he can elevate his game to compensate for the big contract.
With that, many believed that Gortat's future with the Wizards is sealed. However, Real GM revealed that the team is not interested in trading away the big man who has been with them since the 2013-14 season.
In his three years with the team, Gortat has played 238 games, starting all but two in that time. He also averages 12.9 points and 9.3 rebounds with his tenure with the Wizards.
Picked 57th overall in the draft, 27th in the second round, Gortat has emerged as a reliable big man who can clog up the lane.
He is also a very physical big man who is not afraid to bang bodies underneath to get the points or the rebounds.
Hopefully, the Wizards plan to keep Gortat in order to help Mahinmi's development as they hope to reach his full potential.
Gortat has three years left in the contract, earning $12 million this year and climbing to eventually $13.5 million by the end of 2018-19.
