'Walking Dead' season 7 episode 3 synopsis: Teaser reveals Daryl's situation in The Sanctuary
The devastating premiere episode of "The Walking Dead" season 7 was followed by a subtler and more hopeful second episode, with the introduction of King Ezekiel and his kingdom. Now, fans are worried about what's next for the people of Alexandria, particularly for Daryl (Norman Reedus) who was held captive by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and the Saviors.
A synopsis as well as a trailer for third episode of the season was recently revealed. According to AMC, the upcoming episode will be titled "The Cell." In the episode, viewers will be introduced to a new group of survivors who have built their own walled community. This refers to the rest of the Saviors and their community, which is called The Sanctuary.
The trailer for the third episode showed a glimpse of Negan's community, and Daryl's present situation. Moreover, it revealed that Daryl isn't the only prisoner in The Sanctuary. Captives were seen wearing sweatshirts and sweatpants, which had a big red letter painted on them.
In the clip, Dwight (Austin Amelio) could be seen watching over other captives working their way out of a maze filled with zombies located just outside of their enclosure. Though the trailer didn't reveal Daryl inside the maze, it showed Dwight hauling Daryl towards the fence.
In an interview with Comicboook.com, Reedus teased how Daryl has been coping since Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Abraham's (Michael Cudlitz) death.
"He goes very, very dark. He does certain things that he can't go back from," Reedus told the publication. "It's a combination of hatred. It's a combination of self-loathing. It's different from when he first started on the show. He has a big chip on his shoulder. ... He hates the world that we're in, and he doesn't lose the fight in him, but he definitely no longer sees anything good in the world, that's for sure."
"The Walking Dead" season 7 returns to AMC on Sundays at 9 p.m. EDT.
