'Vikings' season 4 episode 13 spoilers: Ragnar and Ivar survive the storm; Rollo returns to Viking roots

Travis Fimmel stars as Ragnar Lothbrok in the historical drama series "Vikings." | YouTube/HISTORY

Two raiding fleets set sail in the previous episode of the "Vikings" season 4, but only one of them may reach its destination in one piece. What will happen to Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and his son Ivar (Alex Høgh) after Queen Aslaug's (Alyssa Sutherland) tragic vision has seemingly come to pass?

The teaser promo and press release for the next episode of "Vikings" season 4 quickly address concerns about the father and son's survival. Titled "Two Journeys," episode 13 will find Ragnar's shipwrecked fleet washing up on the Wessex coast, which is exactly where they are headed.

However, the Viking warlord will be forced to rethink his plans when his surviving army proves to be too small to form a credible raiding force. He will opt to head to the Royal Villa in Wessex, carrying his crippled son, Ivar, along the way. What does Ragnar plan to do now that it has become all too clear that he has lost the favor of the gods? What does he hope to accomplish by coming to King Ecbert (Linus Roache) with his son?

In an interview with Screener TV, actor Høgh shared that all his character, Ivar, wanted was to be normal, and that the affinity he had for his father was due to the fact that Ragnar was pushing him to his fullest potentials.

"I don't think anybody else would, because he's a cripple," Høgh added.

Meanwhile, Björn's (Alexander Ludwig) fleet safely reaches France where the heir of Kattegat meets with his uncle, Rollo (Clive Standen), who may in turn risk his life of affluence as a married Frankish nobleman when he feels the urge to join his nephew's voyage.

The episode preview also revealed what Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) has been planning all along: she wants to take Kattegat back and dethrone Aslaug as queen. How will Kattegat fare against the Earl Instad's raiding army with most of their warriors now out at sea? Will Lagertha show mercy and spare the Queen's life along with her son's, Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith) and Sigurd (David Lindström)?

"Vikings" season 4 episode 13 airs on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 9 p.m. EST on History.
