'Uncharted: The Lost Legacy' release date news 2016: Naughty Dog announces standalone DLC
Nathan Drake's journey might have ended, but that doesn't mean the "Uncharted" franchise has come to an end. Developer Naughty Dog made loud noises by introducing "The Last of Us 2" at the PlayStation Experience (PSX) event during the weekend, but that's not the only game it unveiled.
The developer also announced that it is going to release a standalone story downloadable content (DLC) called "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy." Here's a look at the announcement trailer:
As seen in the trailer, Australian treasure hunter Chloe Frazer is going to be the protagonist in the game. The character was introduced in "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves," and she has made appearances in subsequent games thereafter. "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" antagonist Nadine Ross is also going to be in the game.
According to Naughty Dog, Frazer and Ross are going to work together as "they venture deep into India's Western Ghats mountain range" in their quest to "recover the long lost Tusk of Ganesh."
"When we began to plot out the story and our vision for the game, we realized we were building something more than an extension of Uncharted 4, and instead, a standalone story in the Uncharted universe. We wanted this adventure to feature all of the hallmarks of the series, from cinematic storytelling set within exotic destinations, to dynamic combat and intricate puzzles," creative director Shaun Escayg stated.
Naughty Dog has yet to announce a release date for "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy," but sources believe it will come out in 2017. Gamers who bought the Digital Deluxe Edition of "Uncharted 4" or the Explorer's Pack will get the game as a download when it comes out. However, players will have until Dec. 13 to purchase one of the two versions.
Will Drake make a cameo in "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy"? Players will have to wait and see.
