'Uncharted' movie release date and news: Joe Carnahan says he wants Nolan North to star in movie
Naughty Dog has just recently ended the "Uncharted" franchise with "Thief's End" released earlier this year, and production is reportedly moving forward. Screenplay writer Joe Carnahan talks about how he wants to approach the movie, and who he thinks should play main adventurer Nathan Drake.
In an interview with Collider, he says that he would rather have the original voice actor Nolan North taking over the role of Nathan Drake.
He says, "Shawn [Levy] and I have talked about a couple of guys, but it's pointless to mention them now because we don't know where everybody's gonna be. In a perfect world it'd be Nolan North! [laughing] That's who I'd like to see play Nathan Drake, that'd be the perfect casting, but I don't know. I think that's gonna be, again man, sheer economics.
Some fans have also been expressing their first picks for the lead characters on Twitter, and some names that have come up for Nathan are that of Chris Pratt ("Guardians of the Galaxy"), Richard Armitage ("The Hobbit Trilogy"), and Jensen Ackles ("Supernatural"). As for other characters, some have suggested to get Scarlett Johansson for Elena and Tom Hanks for Sully.
As of now, fans are happy that the "Uncharted" movie is finally getting some steam. It was reportedly going in and out of development for a couple of years until Sony finally landed director Shawn Levy. Levy has made a bunch of action-adventure movies over the years, but probably his most significant work in pop-culture has been in Netflix's "Stranger Things."
"Uncharted" follows the adventures of Nathan Drake, descendant of adventurer Francis Drake. In the first game, he gets stranded on an island while he's in search for the lost city of El Dorado. Along the way he runs into rival treasure hunters, Nazis and undead Spaniards.
No official release date has been announced for the "Uncharted" movie.
