UFC 184 Results: Ronda Rousey Defeats Cat Zingano in 14 Seconds
U.F.C. champion Ronda Rousey broke her own record as she beat challenger Cat Zingano in just 14 seconds on Saturday night.
Rousey defeated Zingano by submission in a manner of seconds in the first round, retaining her U.F.C. bantamweight title.
Zingano immediately charged straight at Rousey and threw a knee, BloodyElbow.com reported. She threw Rousey over her head, but the champion quickly adjusted and did the same thing to her. When the two fighters hit the mat, Rousey scrambled onto Zingano's arm and locked it, giving Zingano unbearable pain. The challenger gave up and tapped. Rousey's armbar finished the match as quickly as it started.
The 14-second match topped her previous record of finishing her opponent in 16 seconds. This was her fourth straight defense of her title.
When asked in a post-fight interview on who she wants to face next, she mentioned Holly Holm and Bethe Correia.
Before the match, Rousey thought Zingano would pose a serious challenge to her. "She presents a lot of unique problems that I'm going to have to solve," Rousey told the Oakland Press on Thursday. "I think I'm capable of it, but it's definitely the most challenging fight I've ever had to prepare for. Most of the women I've fought couldn't stand up to Cat, but I think I'm capable of doing it."
Zingano was also confident that she has a chance against the champ. "I'm something different," Zingano said. "I'm something unique, and I think I can bring her a different challenge than she's never seen before. We'll see how she handles it, but I'm very confident I'll win."
Zingano should have had this match a couple of years ago but she tore a knee ligament in training. Miesha Tate stepped in but suffered a subsequent loss to Rousey at U.F.C. 168.
