'Transformers 5' release date, news: film will feature origin of the Transformers

It's no secret that the "Transformers" films tend to have convoluted plot lines that give first-time viewers a fit as they try to understand what's going on. But it sounds like they are doing something to remedy this in "Transformers: The Last Knight."

Mark Wahlberg, the actor portraying Cade Yeager, told Entertainment Tonight that the film will feature "a lot of stuff about the origin of Transformers and their history."

Screen Rant has also reported that they have spoken to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and he said they have made a conscious effort to ensure that viewers who saw the film would completely understand the storyline.

"The opening of the film will introduce the exploration of the mythology that we're going to do. Therefore, it's not necessary to have seen the films before, because it's going to establish the — let's call it the mystery of the movie, and the direction the movie is going to go in."

This is actually a good idea and the film can serve as an entry point for viewers who are new to the franchise. And fans don't have to worry about the film veering into a new direction, because at the end of the day, "The Last Knight" is still a Michael Bay movie.

"It feels like a Michael Bay Transformers movie to me, which is great. And there's some additional ideas and things that are able to give us a more fleshed-out world," Bonaventura said.

As long as Bay is directing, fans can expect to see a lot of explosions and impressive actions scenes. After all, the "Transformers" films are not exactly known for their storylines. Aside from the first movie, the previous films have been panned by critics. Some critics are already saying harsh things about "The Last Knight" months before it even comes out. But the films did quite well in the box office because fans loved to watch the action sequences.

"Transformers: The Last Knight" is scheduled to premiere on June 23, 2017.
