'Tomb Raider' release date, news: Walton Goggins shares some details about the film's villain
There's no doubt that Walton Goggins knows how to play a villain. He managed to portray Billy Crash with ease in "Django Unchained," and "Justified's" Boyd Crowder was also a very believable villain. He also portrayed seedy characters like Lee Russell in "Vice Principals," and Chris Mannix in "The Hateful Eight."
Goggins definitely has a knack for playing the villain, and in an interview with Collider, he shared some details about the character he's going to be portraying in the "Tomb Raider" reboot film. "And this person that I get to play is confused and angry and desperate. I'm just looking forward to getting in his head. I'm really, really, really excited about it," he said.
Right now, Goggins' character doesn't have a name yet, but it sounds like he's going to be a multi-faceted villain. He should be excited to play the character because he's the perfect actor for these kinds of roles.
Goggins went on to heap praise on co-star Alicia Vikander, the actress playing Lara Croft, and "Tomb Raider" director Roar Uthaug. He also had good things to say about the script.
"Quite honestly, the script feels like it's already been in the world, in some ways. The structure and the foundation of this story is so solid and so interesting. It's so unbelievably entertaining, and yet it's real in the journey that it takes you on," he stated.
The latest film adaptation of "Tomb Raider" is going to be based on the 2013 reboot game, so it's going to be quite different from the previous "Tomb Raider" films with Angelina Jolie playing the lead character. The film will follow Lara in one of her first adventures as she searches for her father. This Lara will be vulnerable, and she will be a character the audience can relate to.
"Tomb Raider" is scheduled to premiere on March 16, 2018.
