Tom Hiddleston news, rumors: Will Hiddleston be the next James Bond?
Tom Hiddleston is one of the favorites to step into the shoes of Daniel Craig and be the next "007." The actor, however, said that he has not been approached yet about playing as James Bond.
"Obviously, it's flattering that people think I'm part of the conversation... Neither of those opportunities have come my way," he said to Nick Grimshaw, who interviewed him on BBC's Radio 1 Breakfast Show.
The second role he was referring to was the Doctor from "Doctor Who." Peter Capaldi, who currently plays the character, has recently announced that he will be leaving the show.
In that same interview, Hiddleston said, "It's difficult because people say, 'How would you feel if you were asked?' and you don't know because you haven't been asked."
According to The Guardian, a London bookie suspended bets on Tm Hiddleston as James Bond when he was reportedly spotted meeting with Sam Mendes and Barbara Broccoli, the director and the producer of James Bond, respectively. Bettors deemed that the actor's chances of playing "007" became higher because of this, leading to the bookmaker's decision to suspend the bet.
Mendes, however, has already confirmed during 2016's Hay Festival that he will not be making James Bond films anymore.
In another news, MI6, a James Bond fan site, recently said that EON Productions, which develops the James Bond movies, is currently in talks with the mayor of Dubrovnik in Croatia for the city to be a possible location for the next "007" film.
Hiddleston's biggest film project to date is his role as Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His latest work is "Kong: Skull Island," which will premiere this month.
Craig's take on James Bond, which was more serious and less campy compared to the other actors who played as the spy, was well-received by fans. It was not surprising then when a lot of them became upset when he announced that he will no longer be portraying Agent 007 and left them guessing who will succeed him.
Since Craig announced his departure from the film franchise, a lot of names have cropped up to handle the role, from seasoned actors to budding, new ones. Aside from Hiddleston, the others who are associated with the "007" role include Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender, James Norton, and Aidan Turner.
