'Tokyo Ghoul' season 3 spoilers: Anime to stray from manga again?
It appears that Studio Pierrot might not follow the manga by Sui Ishida for "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 in order to properly continue the second season.
The sophomore run of the anime earned massive flak as it was nothing like its source material. The first season followed the manga although it cut off tons of elements in order to fit the story in 12 episodes.
However, the anime might still stray from the manga for "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 in order to give the cliffhanger from the second season a proper ending.
Ken Kaneki's fate was hanging in the balance following his confrontation with Arima. According to speculations, he was killed, but his story will not end there.
If "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will follow the manga, it is likely that Ken will be revealed alive, but his memories are no longer intact. In a nutshell, he suffers amnesia and now lives his life as Haise Sasaki.
This new identity, as per the manga, happens to be a Rank 1 investigator and the leader of a special unit of investigators at the Commission of Counter Ghoul (CCG).
Of course, this might not be how it turns out in "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 seeing that the second season is completely different from the manga.
With that said, Studio Pierrot might continue to diverge from Ishida's original story and give its own take on Ken Kaneki's story in the anime.
However, with Ken being an amnesiac vital to the manga, it will be strange for "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 not to follow it.
At the moment, there is no concrete news about the return of the anime. What is only in the works for now is the live-action movie set for next year.
An official renewal has not been announced yet so fans should not expect a 2016 launch for "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3.
