"Tokyo Ghoul" will reportedly see another season; however, there have been no official announcements about the development of the TV series as well as a potential release date. Rumor has it that the anime show will progress in a darker setting.

According to reports, writer Sui Ishida confirmed that the third season of "Tokyo Ghoul" is indeed in the works. If the rumors are true, anime enthusiasts will see "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 before the year ends. Furthermore, Ken Kaneki will reportedly have an important storyline in the upcoming season. His identity as well as his evolution will be highlighted.

Though it hasn't been confirmed, reports are saying that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will be a sequel for "Tokyo Ghoul: re," which is already a continuation of the original series. The events in "Tokyo Ghoul: re" are set two years after the happenings in the original storyline.

Previously, Anime Maru reported that "Tokyo Ghoul" will be returning in the winter of 2016. The news outlet also claimed that the upcoming season will showcase Touka Kirishima's journey in choosing the right university. An anime writer who was referred to as Bob reportedly described the upcoming season to have the "most disillusioning, psychological and darkest plot line."

But despite Anime Maru's report, many fans chose not to believe in the news outlet.

On the other hand, GamenGuide noted that several sources have reported similar information to Anime Maru. According to the publication, recent reports have claimed that the anime will launch in 2016.

For the uninitiated, "Tokyo Ghoul" was based on the manga series created by Sui Ishida. Aside from the anime TV series and the manga, the franchise currently has two original video animations and two video game titles.

If the rumors are true, the third season of "Tokyo Ghoul" will launch towards the end of the year. Since the studio has yet to confirm the latest allegations about the franchise, anime enthusiasts should treat the reports as speculation until proven otherwise.

Watch out for more updates on "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3.
