'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers news: Elena's Miss Mystic Falls stint to be revisited
Elena (Nina Dobrev) will once again be central to Sybil's (Nathalie Kelley) latest scheme when "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 returns to the small screen.
The second episode for the brand-new year is titled "The Simple Intimacy of the Near Touch," which, like all the episodes of the season, is a nod to one of the early installments of the vampire drama.
The title of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, episode 9 is a line that Carol Lockwood uttered in episode 19 of the very first season, "Miss Mystic Falls."
This was while she was teaching Elena, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and other candidates of the pageant held at the Mystic Falls High School.
Carol said this when Stefan spun Elena and caught her in his arms, strictly telling the pair that there is no touching in this particular part of the pageant.
Harking back to this moment, "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, episode 9 will see Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Stefan, Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) attend the Miss Mystic Falls pageant.
Here, Sybil will once again mess with Damon's memories of Elena, as the synopsis teases. This is to make sure that Damon does not break. It will be interesting to see how this will turn out.
Another notable mention in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, episode 9 is Bonnie's possible vampire transformation. The synopsis teases she is wearing a vile of Enzo's blood that gives Caroline (Candice King) the impression her friend is about to make a big change in her life.
However, things are not always as they seem in Mystic Falls so Bonnie might have something else I in mind. What it is, fans will have to wait for another two weeks to learn more.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8, episode 9, "The Simple Intimacy of the Near Touch," airs Friday, Jan. 20, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. The midseason premiere will air Jan. 13.
