British actor Idris Elba will be replacing Jamie Foxx in playing a gangster rapper in the upcoming revenge drama "The Trap," The Hollywood Reporter disclosed.

Alba will be joining a cast led by Benicio Del Toro, who will portray his best friend for whom the 42-year-old actor will take the fall for a robbery the duo committed years earlier.

Written by Harmony Korine, the movie also stars Al Pacino, James Franco and Robert Pattinson in a revenge tale set against the backdrop of the Miami music scene.

Elba will play Rico, a rapper who is at the top of his career and about to enjoy a triumphant night at the Grammy Awards when Del Toro's Slim is released from a 14-year imprisonment.

Slim is determined to exact revenge after learning that Rico not only achieved fame and fortune but also married his girlfriend and raised Slim's son as his own, The Wrap said.

The former inmate plotted to exact his revenge by recruiting a crew of Uzi-wielding surfers led by Pattinson's Max and Rico's cocaine-happy manager played by Franco.

Pacino will play Slim's parole officer.

Le Grisbi's John Lesher is producing the latest movie directed by Harmony Korine alongside Charles-Marie Anthonioz at Iconoclast and Marc Schmidheiny at DCM Film.

Focus Features is still in the final stage of negotiations to acquire U.S. rights to Korine's film while Lionsgate will be handling the movie internationally.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate will also offer the project to foreign buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

The 42-year-old Korine previously made the 2012 indie hit "Spring Breakers" which featured Franco along with Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and his wife Rachel Korine.

The crime-comedy grossed $31 million worldwide with an estimated budget of $5 million.

Elba can next be seen on the big screen reprising his role as Heimdall in "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" due to hit the big screen on May 1.
