Game developers Maxis and The Sims Studio have always had a hit with "The Sims," a game that basically simulates what one does in real life and has gotten fans hooked and playing for hours. However, many are wondering when the series' latest installment, "The Sims 4," will make its way to gaming consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

At the moment, "The Sims 4" is only available on Microsoft Windows or OS X platforms and fans are starting to wonder whether it will ever make it to consoles.

Many thought that the game developers would announce that it would be releasing the game on consoles during last month's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), but fans did not get any update.

Now, recent reports are saying that the switch to console gaming may not happen for "The Sims 4" at all.

There have been different reasons why the game isn't on consoles just yet. One reason is that the developers are experiencing some trouble in porting the game. On the other hand, there are some who believe that publisher Electronic Arts want the game to be complete in the PC and Mac versions — meaning the downloadable content and updates are all available — before they make a console version.

With that in mind, it is possible that the "The Sims 4" developers may skip the transition to consoles and instead try to develop an entirely new game that would be console-friendly.

The game was released back in September 2014 for Microsoft Windows, and in February 2015 for the OS X.

It remains to be one of the most popular games at the moment, having already released two expansion packs, three game packs, seven stuff packs and different downloadable contents.

PlayStation and Xbox last had "The Sims" available back in 2005 when "The Sims 2" was released.

Outside of the four main games, "The Sims" franchise also has other titles such as "The Sims Online," "The Sims Stories," "MySims," "The Sims Carnival," and others.
