'The Last Guardian' release date, news: new CG trailer teases players' future giant creature friend
As the long-awaited game "The Last Guardian" approaches its release date, Sony Interactive Entertainment released its latest computer graphics trailer that shows more of the hybrid creature that will become the players' future friend in the game.
"The Last Guardian" has been in development since 2007 and along the way experienced a lot of bumps in the road, which explains the almost decade-long process. The game is expected to go heavy on its story as it features an old man's memories of his early days with his creature friend Trico, a hybrid of cat, dog and a bird.
Players of the game will have to control Trico and its animal instincts to be utilized in completing game missions and puzzles.
The computer-generated (CG) trailer opens to a vast, open world expected to be seen in the game. It features enormous mountains and rock formations as well as beautiful ruins. The trailer then pans closer to the main young boy character who can be seen being chased by several soldiers.
The boy looks to encounter a dead end as a dilapidated wooden bridge reaches a huge gap that prevents the boy to cross. Good thing, though, Trico comes in right on time to save the day. The young boy bravely jumps through the broken bridge as Trico saves him with his long, giant tail.
The game was supposedly released last Oct. 25, however, another delay was announced over a month before the target date. Sony said that the delay was needed, "To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game's creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues." The game's release was, then, pushed back to Dec. 6.
For avid supporters of the game, there is no need to worry since it was reported that the game has gone gold last month and that the Dec. 6 release is close to actually happening.
Creative director Fumito Ueda recently said about the game, "It's quite simple ... at the end of playing through the game, if the player feels the existence of Trico, like it's really there, then we have accomplished what we set out to do."
