'The Kingkiller Chronicle' release date news update 2016: Lionsgate taps John Rogers to run the 'The Kingkiller Chronicle' TV series
Looks like Lionsgate has finally found the right man to run the show for the TV portion of Patrick Rothfuss' "The Kingkiller Chronicle." Reports say John Rogers has been recruited by the studio to act as the showrunner for the project. He will also write and serve as executive producer for the pilot. Rogers is currently the showrunner on TNT's "The Librarians." He also created the show.
"With the addition of the incredibly talented John Rogers as showrunner, we have now assembled the perfect creative team to develop a premium quality scripted series to launch our 'Kingkiller Chronicle' franchise," Lionsgate Television Group chairman Kevin Beggs said in a statement.
"The unique collaboration between our television and feature film divisions will enable us to dramatically expand the world of this iconic franchise for its millions of passionate fans while introducing the property to a whole new global audience," he added.
Rothfuss, Robert Lawrence, and Jennifer Court will also act as executive producers for the TV series along with Rogers.
Lionsgate is planning to make a feature film adaptation of the book series, while the TV portion will focus on expanding the world that Rothfuss has created. Lin-Manuel Miranda is serving as the franchise's creative producer and he will also be composing original music for the franchise. Lionsgate and Roger's production company Kung Fu Monkey also have the option to develop a stage adaptation of "The Kingkiller Chronicle."
Well, the franchise is in good hands since Rothfuss is going to be involved. Miranda also admitted that he is a huge fan of the book series, so his knowledge will come in handy.
"Transformers: The Last Knight" writer Lindsey Beer will work on the script for the first film, which is going to be based on the first book of the series, "The Name of the Wind."
Right now, Lionsgate has yet to reveal the release date for the TV series and the feature film.
