'The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2′ Release Date Set For November 2015 In IMAX Theaters
Fans of "The Hunger Games" can now rest assured that they will see the second part of "Mockingjay" in 3D as Lionsgate announced that the film will be released in IMAX 3D.
Together with IMAX Corporation, Lionsgate confirmed that "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2" will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX format when it opens on Nov. 30.
Greg Foster, senior executive vice president of IMAX Corporation, expressed his excitement of teaming up with partners from Lionsgate for the finale of "The Hunger Games" trilogy.
"We believe (it) will be a thrilling and action-packed finale to this blockbuster franchise," Foster said, according to Variety.
"The fan enthusiasm and cultural impact that this series has generated has been truly remarkable and we are thrilled to offer audiences the opportunity to experience the last chapter in IMAX 3D," he added.
The IMAX® 3D version of the next installment of the global blockbuster will be digitally remastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX® Digital Re-mastering or DMR technology.
The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theater geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie, the Variety explained.
"I'm thrilled Mockingjay – Part 2 will be in IMAX theaters. Fans will now have the chance to see the film in any format they want, which is exciting; we recently saw the 3-D version of Mockingjay – Part 1 before its release in China, and the new level of immersion was really fantastic," Mockingjay Part 2 director Francis Lawrence said.
"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1″ was not released in the Imax format since Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" remained in IMAX theaters when the first part of "Mockingjay" opened last November.
The second film in the franchise, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," included a 50-minute arena sequence that was formatted for IMAX.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer told analysts during the studio's earnings call that the move will ensure that "Mockingjay 2″ will "conclude with a blockbuster finale at the box office."
It was the "Hunger Games" trilogy that launched Jennifer Lawrence into superstardom, grossing over $2.2 billion at the global box office.
