'The Flash' season 3 updates, spoilers: Showrunners confirm season 3 villains; Another speedster joining Barry?

With the Flashpoint storyline in play, "The Flash" season 3 is expected to veer away from the premise set by the two previous seasons. It will also introduce two new villains who will make life harder for Barry Allen, a.k.a. the Scarlet Speedster.

Executive producer Aaron Helbing said season 3 will focus more on psychological warfare, adding that the two new villains, Savitar and Dr. Alchemy, will be much different from Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher) and Zoom (Teddy Sears). Coexecutive producer explained the difference when they spoke to TV Line.

"[We're] trying to have the powers that they both possess play off of each other," Todd said. "It's not just, 'Oh, I have to catch this guy and take him down.' It's like, 'Crap, now there's this other guy, Dr. Alchemy,' who has these transmutation qualities [via] this Philosopher's Stone. You start to learn what he does with this stuff and how the both of them are coexisting."

During the San Diego Comic-Con in July, Todd said Savitar will be introduced much later in the season. However, his statement to TV Line suggests that Savitar and Dr. Alchemy will coexist. Thus, fans can expect Team Flash to deal with both villains simultaneously.

The two admitted that "The Flash" season 2 took on a darker turn because of Zoom. Hence, for season 3, they're trying to bring the series back to the lighter tone it was known for during its maiden season.

Meanwhile, Comic Book Movie reports that Jesse Wells (Violett Beane) may be joining "The Flash" season 3's speedy line-up. Apparently, her arrival on the series is long overdue and should have happened around the same time the shockwave explosion occurred.

The showrunners are yet to issue official statements regarding the Jesse Wells angle, so fans should take the report lightly, perhaps with a grain of salt.

In the meantime, keep coming back for more news and updates about "The Flash" season 3, which is set to premiere on Oct. 4, 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
