Barry (Grant Gustin) fights for Iris (Candice Patton) on the upcoming episode of The CW's hit superhero drama "The Flash" season 3.

Titled "Borrowing Problems from the Future," the show's midseason premiere kicks off with Barry determined to save the love of his life. According to the official synopsis, Barry is still tormented by his vision of the future where Savitar brutally murders Iris. When a new villain named Plunder (guest star Stephen Huszar) starts to wreak havoc in Central City, Barry remembers the criminal's presence in his vision of the future.

He eventually begins to fear that if he successfully puts a stop to Plunder's evil deeds, it will cement Iris' unfortunate fate. Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) is confused about Barry's hesitation to stop Plunder, so he decides to step in as Kid Flash and do what should be done. Elsewhere, Julian (Tom Felton) gets an unexpected job offer from none other than Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker).

On another note, The CW recently renewed a number of its most popular programs including "The Flash." The network announced the series that will form part of its 2017–2018 programming, and all of its superhero shows scored an early renewal. "Arrow" moves forward to its sixth season, "The Flash" heads to its fourth, while "Legends of Tomorrow" and "Supergirl" will both move onto their third seasons. All four programs are currently on their mid-season break and are expected to return later this month.

"Over the past several seasons, The CW has built a schedule of proven performers, from our lineup of DC superheroes, to critically acclaimed comedies, to sci-fi dramas," The CW President Mark Pedowitz said in a press statement about the renewal news. "Early pickups of these seven series now allow our producers to plan ahead for next season, and gives us a solid base to build on for next season, with original scripted series to roll out all year long," he added.

The third season of "The Flash" returns on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
