Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" is set to premiere on July 28.

The film was originally set for release on Feb. 17. However, this was delayed by Sony to give the moviemakers more time to work on the special effects of the film.

The film's first promotional poster has also recently been released by King himself on Twitter, with the caption, "Pilgrim, there are other worlds than these. Come with us on the adventure." The imagery is somewhat unsettling, with Manhattan turned upside-down. The Man in Black/Walter Padick (Matthew McConaughey) stands at the top, while Roland (Idris Alba) and Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) are at the bottom.

"The Dark Tower" is not a film adaptation of King's dark fantasy series. Instead, it will pick up where the novels left off, with the movie showing what happens in the aftermath of the events of "The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower."

The screenplay of "The Dark Tower" was written by Akiva Goldsman, Jeff Pinker, Anders Thomas Jensen, and Nikolaj Arcel, who is also the film's director. The producers are King, Ron Howard, and Goldsman.

King admitted on Herald Tribune that he already saw the film. He said, "I've seen 'The Dark Tower,' and that's terrific." Fans have taken this as a good sign since the author is known to be critical of film adaptations of his work.

A TV series will pick up where the film will end. Elba and Taylor will be reprising their roles in the show. McConaughey's involvement, on the other hand, is still unsure, although it remains a possibility. MRC and Sony Pictures, which are handling the film, will also be releasing the TV series, which will have 10 to 13 episodes. Roland's backstory will be shown in the series, which means a young actor will be cast to play the character as a teenager.
