'The Batman' release date, news: Ben Affleck says the film is 'not a set thing'
When film critics started bashing "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," Ben Affleck, the actor playing Batman, was humiliated after spending so much time promoting it. Critics may think that the film was a mess, but Affleck is going to be directing "The Batman," and it sounds like he will do everything he can to get it right.
In an interview with The Guardian, Affleck reiterated that the film still doesn't have a script, and he also suggested that he was not going to direct "The Batman" if he doesn't like the direction it was going. "It's not a set thing and there's no script. If it doesn't come together in a way I think is really great I'm not going to do it," he stated.
Did Affleck just admit that nothing was set in stone? Warner Bros. may have announced that he's going to direct "The Batman," but it looks like he may have the option to back out from the project if it doesn't go the way he wants it to go.
It is understandable why he's a little apprehensive about a film like this. "The Batman" is a very high-profile film and everyone will be watching to see how well it performs. Affleck knows how damaging a bad film can do to an actor's career. After all, he was part of some pretty bad films himself. "Gigli" was a film some would rather forget, and Affleck's first foray into portraying a comic book character in "Daredevil" didn't go too well either.
So, why did he decide to take on the role of Batman? "[My son] Sam thinks his dad is Batman. That's an incredible feeling," he said. Perfect response Mr. Affleck.
In any case, looks like it may take a while for the project to move forward because Affleck doesn't want to film a subpar movie. And that is actually a good thing.
