'The Batman' release date, news: Ben Affleck does not want to make a mediocre Batman film
It looks like "The Batman" is moving along slowly, but the project is certainly in good hands. Aside from playing the titular character, Ben Affleck is also directing the film and co-writing the script with Geoff Johns. The actor/director knows what he's doing, and in an interview for Entertainment Weekly's Best of 2016 issue (via MovieWeb), he shared some details about the film's progress and why he does not want to rush things and make a mediocre film.
"I'm still working on the script. I'm not going to write and direct anything that I don't think is good enough to be made. I'm definitely going to make sure I have something that is special— there's not enough money in the world to make a mediocre version of Batman worth it."
Earlier this month, Affleck also told The New York Times (via Batman-News) that they were still working on the script and he's not in a hurry to release a mediocre movie. "I really want to make sure, if we do it, we get the great version and one that's worthy of tradition of guys like Tim Burton, Chris Nolan, and Christian Bale," he stated
It's clear that Affleck does not want to make a subpar movie. After the success of "Good Will Hunting," he starred in several badly scripted films such as "Daredevil" and "Gigli," so he definitely knows what it feels like to be in a mediocre movie. Fortunately, after a series of flops, Affleck made an almost Rocky-like comeback with "Argo" and he is one of the most respected filmmakers right now. He doesn't want to fall into that hole again.
Aside from Affleck, "The Batman" will star Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke. It is rumored that Catwoman and several other villains may appear in the film.
Warner Bros. has yet to announce the official release date for the film, but former executive Greg Silverman says "The Batman" will come out in 2018.
