MARVEL

Chinese moviegoers will be able to watch "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" after Marvel agreed to release the much awaited superhero movie in China on May 12.

The Robert Downey Jr. starrer will get to be screened in the second biggest film market in the world next to North America, The Hollywood Reporter said.

In 2012, "The Avengers" made $84 million in China, beating out the United Kingdom with its third highest total of $80 million, according to Hypable.

After finally passing censorship in China, the sequel is currently being translated to Chinese by its importer, the state-owned China Film Group, according to China's leading movie site Mtime.

Chinese box office is increasingly becoming important to Hollywood as the burgeoning number of screens translates into surging revenues.

Directed by Joss Whedon, the sequel to 2012's "The Avengers" also stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Cobie Smulders, Stellan Skarsgard, James Spader and Samuel L. Jackson.

It will hit theaters in the United States on May 1 while it opens in the United Kingdom and in India earlier on April 24.

Meanwhile, Marvel reported that the third trailer for "The Avengers: Age Of Ultron" set a record-breaking 35 million views in 24 hours last week. It broke the previous record set by the last teaser trailer, which debuted on Oct. 22, which got 34.3 million global views in 24 hours, Deadline reported.
