'Tekken 7' release date, characters, gameplay, news & update: No more 'Street Fighter' crossovers? New trailer reveals story mode clues
A new trailer for "Tekken 7" has provided some clues on the story mode of the fighting game. While there were gameplay showcases included there, it is the cutscenes that caught the eyes of many gamers.
This is because Kazama was shown with a jewel on his forehead, which is believed to be what he is using to summon the Devil gene.
What this will mean for Kazama and the rest remains to be seen, but it appears that "Tekken 7" has something more in store for the ongoing feud.
Akuma can also be seen in the said trailer, where he was battling it out with Heihachi. As revealed before, the demonic fighter is coming to "Tekken 7" even though he was included in "Street Fighter 5."
Speaking about Akuma's jump to the Capcom fighting game during an interview with GameSpot, game producer Katsuhiro Harada said that he is a "special case."
"It's not like other games where we take the character and put him in the character lineup and that's it. He's actually part of the story and the game--not just the backstory but actually in the story mode itself," he explained.
With regards to the possibility of having more characters bouncing from "Tekken 7" to "Street Fighter" and vice versa, this is what he had to say:
"It might be interesting to include some other guest characters, if there was one that really clicked and could bring in a new audience. But at the moment, it's not something we're actively thinking about."
"Tekken 7" will be released next year for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and personal computer. It is unclear at the moment if the game will be available on the PS4 Pro, the Xbox Scorpio or the Nintendo Switch.
The consoles are the latest from the respective companies and their reveal appears to have surprised Harada's team. With that said, there is no news to share with regards to the game's release on these new platforms.
