'Tekken 7' character roster news, updates: more fighters to be added via free DLC?
After the announcement of Kuma and Panda's addition in "Tekken 7" a couple of weeks ago, fans are back to waiting for the character roster to get bigger once again as they continue to hang around for the console version's release.
Bandai Namco Entertainment is currently silent about the matter although fans can hold on to game director Katsuhiro Harada's statement from August about expanding the game the same way "Tekken Tag Tournament 2" is expanded.
That is in the form of free downloadable content (DLC) that will include new characters, skins as well as stages to fight in.
Speaking to Gamereactor, Harada said that while he still prefers fighting games to be released as a "package" so players can enjoy them "however long they want," he is considering doing post-release support, too.
"When you want to do something new, like change the gameplay mechanics or content, you release a different package. I always thought that was the best model for fighting games," he said.
"But recently with the digital purchases and such a lot of people, the players especially, are saying that they don't mind paying, that they still want to see some new content after release. So since the voices are becoming more and more larger, I guess you could say, it is something that we want to think about seriously and perhaps change our point of view," he went on to say.
The debut of "Tekken 7" to the console will be next year. To tease its arrival, Bandai Namco has been slowly uncovering the character roster for the game.
If Harada stays true to his word about post-launch content, the character introduced in "Tekken 7" will be bumped up via DLC. For now, however, the focus is on learning the identity of the actual fighters to be included by in the fighting game.
