'Supernatural' season 12 episode 8 spoilers: Sam and Dean head to the White House in midseason finale

A promotional still from "Supernatural" season 12, episode 8, titled "Lotus" | The CW

For the midseason finale of "Supernatural" season 12, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) are headed to the White House.

Now that Lucifer's days as a rock star, Vince Vicente (Rick Springfield), are over and done, he moves on to find a new vessel in episode 8, "Lotus," and he certainly made sure the next one is a biggie.

To secure greater power and influence, Lucifer appears to have gone for the biggest fish he could cast his net on in "Supernatural" season 12, episode 8 — the President of the United States of America (POTUS) himself (David Chisum).

The synopsis for the episode teases that the POTUS unwittingly makes a deal with the devil, which could only mean that Lucifer has the most powerful man in the world under his control.

With the resources that Lucifer will have access to as President, it will be much easier for him to enact his evil plans in "Supernatural" season 12, episode 8.

Dealing with the POTUS makes the task of taking down Lucifer more difficult than it already is when he was just controlling Vicente.

This is why for this mission, Sam and Dean team up with Castiel (Misha Collins), Crowley (Mark Sheppard) and Rowena (Ruth Connell) to get the job done.

While the team intends to save the President, it will certainly not look like it as his security will make sure no one lays a finger on the person with the highest position in the land.

"Supernatural" season 12, episode 8 promises to end the year with a bang. This could be taken quite literally as the use of a grenade launcher will be involved.

Much to the disappointment of Dean, who has been dying to use the weapon that just sits on the Impala's trunk, the grenade launcher will be used against them.

"Supernatural" season 12, episode 8, "Lotus," airs Thursday, Dec. 8 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
