'Supernatural' season 12 episode 2 spoilers news update: Dean gets protective with mom; Castiel, Crowley team up
Dean (Jensen Ackles) and company may have failed to save his brother Sam in last week's episode of "Supernatural." But episode 2 of season 2 may offer them a more promising lead to Sam's (Jared Padalecki) whereabouts.
According to the official press release, the group will make significant strides in their quest to find Sam. However, for her own safety, Dean will show a reluctance to let their newly resurrected mother Mary (Samantha Smith) be more involved. Still, it'll take more than Dean's protective instincts to keep a mother from her youngest son whom she had not seen in more than three decades.
In a video interview posted by The CW, actor Padalecki teased that Mary's return may finally give the Winchester boys a chance to experience simply being sons, which they did not at all get to be as hunters-in-training with their late father John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). It will be interesting to see their family dynamics, especially since Sam did not spend enough time with their mother to remember her.
In another video interview by the CW, actor Misha Collins said that his character, the loyal angel Castiel, will be hard-pressed to make up for his bad choices in the previous season. Castiel's mission in season 12 would be to hunt Lucifer and take him down.
Coincidentally, in this week's episode titled "Mamma Mia," Lucifer will finally find a vessel who can contain his immense powers in the person of a rock star, Vince Vicente (Rick Springfield). King of hell Crowley (Mark Sheppard) will be on his tail.
Collins previously teased via Entertainment Weekly that an alliance between Crowley and Castiel may lead to some buddy cop type humor later in the season.
This week's episode will also see the return of Crowley's mother Rowena (Ruth Connell) as shown in the preview, but it is unclear whether she will be friend or foe now that the world is no longer at risk.
"Supernatural" season 12 episode 2 airs on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
