'Suits' season 6B spoilers: Jessica's absence will allow Harvey 'some personal growth'
The New York firm in "Suits" needs another regrouping after they have just scored a win with Mike (Patrick J. Adams) getting out of prison early and their clients still locked in place. This time however, Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Louis (Rick Hoffman) are set up to helm the group with Jessica deciding to drop the keys to the kingdom to his two co-managing partners.
The legal drama is expected to drive the point regarding the power shift by titling the comeback episode "She's Gone." The official synopsis has been revealed for the installment and fans can expect the struggle between Harvey and Louis in running the firm without Jessica manning the ship.
Torres, who left the series in an abrupt but well-made narrative for the midseason finale, had her character deciding to give up corporate law to pursue a presumably less stressful life with on-and-off beau, Jeff Malone. The girl boss then trots to Chicago where her character will be logistically near New York in case her old colleagues need a pair of helping hand. Still, there is no denying that the dynamics in the rebuilding of Pearson, Specter Litt will no longer be the same without the Pearson.
While Louis was the more repulsive one, initially, when Jessica announced her decision to step down, it is arguably Harvey who was hit the most by the shocker. And if the last scene of him in his office is any indication, New York's best closer just got emotionally unhinged with the departure of his mentor. So what does that mean for him moving forward? Fans know that he has some hangups with people leaving given what happened to his family, but show creator Aaron Korsh shares that this predicament may actually good for the ball-busting lawyer.
The show exec told Michael Ausiello from TVLine that Jessica's absence will open "an opportunity for Harvey to undergo some personal growth."
"We talked, as writers, about what that means. Does it mean he goes back to therapy? Does it mean he deals with his mother? Does it mean he gets into a deeper relationship with Donna [Sarah Rafferty]? All of these possibilities were tossed around... and we ended up picking one or some of them," Korsh added.
Certainly, should folks behind "Suits" decide to finally tread toward a Harvey and Donna relationship, long-time fans of the legal series will be jumping up and down their seats. Season after season, their bond has been going back and forth that even Mike has been poking them about it.
"Suits" season 6 is scheduled to return on Jan. 25 on USA Network.
