Subaru BRZ STI Sport release date, specs news: Concept sports car to show more aggressive face at Tokyo Auto Salon
Subaru recently released its lineup of vehicles that will be showcased at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon, to be held at the Makuhari Messe convention center from Jan. 13 to 15. Among the eight vehicles to be put on display, it is the BRZ STI Sport Concept that has caught the eye of most car enthusiasts.
Aside from a promotional image, not a lot of details have been revealed for the BRZ STI Sport concept vehicle. However, based on the name alone, it is expected to be a high-performance sports car. The automaker's motorsports division, Subaru Technica International (STI), has taken charge in enhancing the BRZ's driving performance. STI's signature Cherry Blossom Red badge is even proudly displayed on the sports car's front fascia. This is good news for those who have been wishing that the Subaru BRZ would dole out more power.
There are no technical specifications and performance numbers, yet but the concept sports car is expected to feature significant improvements over the 2017 BRZ's 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 205 horsepower and 156 pound-feet of torque. The production vehicle can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in 6.7 seconds and attain a top speed of 143 mph.
According to Subaru's website dedicated to Tokyo Auto Salon 2017, the BRZ STI Sport is based on the BRZ GT model. It will have a new high-quality body kit with a more aggressive front bumper, sporty side skirts, red Brembo brake calipers and new 18-inch multi-spoke aluminum wheels. Like other STI-badged vehicles, the cabin of the concept vehicle will also be in Bordeaux Red.
Aside from the BRZ STI Sport Concept, Subaru will also showcase other vehicles including the WRX S4 STI Sport Concept and the Levorg and Impreza G4 with STI performance parts. The two latter vehicles are said to feature unique and flexible components such as a tower bar. They will also deliver superb, stable and exhilarating driving and handling performance.
