'Stranger Things' season 2 release date, cast news: actor-comedian Brett Gelman newest addition to the cast
Another actor joins the cast for "Stranger Things" season 2. This time, it is actor-comedian Brett Gelman who is going to be the new face in the well-received Netflix original sci-fi thriller series.
Executive producer Shawn Levy kept his word when he teased at an interview last September with The Hollywood Reporter (THR), "There's definitely a handful of really compelling new characters this season, but absolutely servicing the core group first and foremost. Like the show itself, it's multigenerational new characters and really, really intriguing ones."
In a more recent THR report on Gelman's addition to the cast, the actor-comedian will play the role of Murray Bauman, a "disgraced journalist" who decided to become a conspiracy theorist. His newfound line of work brings him to Hawkins to investigate a cold case.
The show has been on a roll in expanding the list of actors as new faces and new regulars for "Stranger Things" season 2.
"Lord of the Rings" actor Sean Astin also joins the show, and he will play a "kind-hearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack," according to a report from Entertainment Weekly.
Paul Reiser has recently been added to the cast as well to play a high-ranking official of the Department of Energy, Dr. Owens, whose main job is to swipe under the rug the events last year.
In the same interview mentioned above, Levy hinted earlier on three new characters who will "absolutely [serve] the core group first and foremost." They include Max, a 13-year-old confident teen who goes around with her skateboard; Billy, a 17-year-old guy who is rumored to have killed someone at his former school; and Roman, an emotionally challenged woman who experienced a great loss in her childhood.
Max, Billy and Roman will be played by actors Sadie Sink, Dacre Montgomery and Linnea Berthelsen, respectively.
To the delight of "Stranger Things" fans, cast members Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, Matthew Madine, Joe Kerry, and Noah Schnapp will reprise their respective roles.
"Stranger Things" season 2 is expected to arrive sometime in 2017 on Netflix.
