'Steven Universe' season 4 air date, spoilers: Steven hangs out with Onion, makes friends with mutated gems?

Recent "Steven Universe" season 4 spoilers point to Steven having discovered Onion's secret friends—the mutated gems. Episode 7 has since shown Steven hanging out with Onion and his friends, so it remains to be seen how things will fare between the two, seeing as how Onion is very quiet and only talks to his parents.

According to reports, Steven will try to place words based on what he thinks Onion is contemplating in his mind. Reports say the trailer for the upcoming episode shows Steven seemingly asking Onion, albeit indirectly, to stop playing and look for something to eat.

However, there might be more to Onion than meets the eye, and that's what the upcoming episode might be about.

The reports also say that Steven might have to deal with the shortcomings of his mother, Rose Quartz, although everything he knows about his mother's story is based on the information Greg provided him.

Meanwhile, an episode of "Steven Universe" season 4 might be tackling a topic related to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or LGBT community. That much was hinted on by no less than showrunner Rebecca Sugar.

"Love is always the core of the show, and now that we've talked a lot about loving relationships like the one between Ruby and Sapphire, and loveless relationships like the one between Lapis and Jasper, I'd really like to talk about identity and individuality, and self-love," she said.

The upcoming season might also see Steven discovering that while Onion may be the shy type, he can actually speak to his gems, which is something neither Steven nor Peridot can do. However, there is a chance that both will find a way to converse with the mutant gems and be able to correct the spoiled gems. Speculations point to the fact that this could be a good plot twist in the arc of "Steven Universe" season 4.
