'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Release Date Nearing as Teaser Trailer Is Released
Fans rejoiced as the teaser trailer for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was released last Friday, giving a 88-second glimpse of Episode 7 of the biggest sci-fi franchise of all time. The movie's release date is still more than a year away – on Dec. 18, 2015 to be exact.
The movie, the sequel to the 1983 Episode 6 "Return of the Jedi," reunites the original cast—Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.
The teaser trailer opens with a voiceover saying, "There has been an awakening in the Force. Have you felt it?" while John Boyega, a British star, appears wearing a Stormtrooper armor. A Stormtrooper army then appears and then another British star, Daisy Ridley riding a different kind of speeder bike.
More than 30 years after the "Return of the Jedi," fans get a glimpse of the Millennium Falcon, the X-Wing fighter and the new hilted lightsaber.
Right after the sneak peak, fans everywhere showed much of their enthusiasm and excitement online by dissecting the trailer scene by scene and debating on the new lightsaber design.
"Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens," directed by J.J. Abrams, continues the story the original trilogy about Han Solo, Chewie, Luke Skywalker and Leia, which ended in 1983. The story is written by Lawrence Kasdan (The Bodyguard, The Big Chill). After acquiring Lucasfilm, Disney is producing the film to be shown in theaters worldwide.
