'Star Wars: Episode VIII' release date, news: Luke and Rey's relationship a key part of the film
"Star Wars" fans were ecstatic when they finally saw Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) at the end of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." However, he didn't do much besides showing the audience his new bearded look. In fact, he didn't utter a single word. He just had that surprised look on his face when Rey (Daisy Ridley) offered him his father's lightsaber with an outstretched hand.
There's a lot to be said, but viewers had to wait until "Star Wars: Episode VIII." Well, it looks like fans will definitely hear Luke's first words to Rey because the film will pick up where "The Force Awakens" left off. "I don't want to skip ahead two years. I want to see the very next moment of what happens," director Rian Johnson told USA Today in a recent interview.
It's a good thing they aren't going to skip anything because fans really want to see the two interact for the first time.
He went on to say Luke and Rey's relationship was a key aspect of the film, and a large part of the film would address what Luke was doing in Ahch-To and what he's planning to do next. Johnson also talked about how Rey would factor in the plot.
"Part of what's she's dealing with is the realization that she has this power and this gift. She's taking her first step to coming to terms with this thing inside her that she never knew was there and is just starting to reveal its potential," he stated.
Meanwhile, Making Star Wars has reported that Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is getting his own modified TIE Fighter in "Star Wars: Episode VIII." The ship is allegedly a First Order TIE Advanced. Sounds like Ren is taking his Darth Vader (voiced by James Earl Jones) obsession to a whole different level by having a ship modeled after his grandfather's.
"Star Wars: Episode VIII" is going to hit the cinemas on Dec. 15.
