'Star Wars Episode 8' spoilers: Adam Driver clarifies 'Empire Strikes Back' statement; Warwick Davis joins cast
Actor Adam Driver has clarified his previous comments about "Star Wars Episode 8," where he compared the upcoming film to "Empire Strikes Back," the second movie from the original trilogy.
Last time when he was speaking to Collider, the actor, who plays the villain Kylo Ren in the new films, said that the upcoming movie is "different in tone in a way that I think is great and necessary but also very clear."
He clarified this during his interview with Vanity Fair. "No, no, and that's not even what I said. What I said was the tone of it was different, I didn't say that it was gonna be in the vein of [it]," the actor explained.
"I was using it as an example, so poor example. Next time I should say—I'm trying to think of another sequel to a movie that's good. When I read the script, it was not what I expected, in the best of ways," he continued.
He simply meant that "Star Wars Episode 8" changed in tone the way "Empire Strikes Back" shifted from "A New Hope."
His previous remark was taken to mean that "Star Wars Episode 8" will be much like "Empire Strikes Back" in terms of the vibe, which Cinema Blend said was understandable seeing that "The Force Awakens" was much like "A New Hope."
In other related news, Warwick Davis has confirmed that he will be in "Star Wars Episode 8." However, he was coy as to the role he will play.
The actor made a cameo appearance in "The Force Awakens" as Wollivan, one of creatures hanging out at Maz Kanata's bar.
When he was younger, he brought to life Wicket the Ewok in the original films. It is unclear if Davis is getting a bigger role in "Star Wars Episode 8."
The film will hit the cinemas Dec. 15, 2017.
