'Star Wars: Episode 8' release date, news: Daisy Ridley hints that Rey's parentage was already answered in 'The Force Awakens'
Who is Rey (Daisy Ridley)? How come she's already skilled at using the Force even though she's just a neophyte? Where did she come from originally? Who are her parents? Who left her in the care of the junk dealer Unkar Plutt (Simon Pegg) on Jakku? A lot of these questions will be answered in the next two "Star Wars" films, but actress Ridley believes a lot of them were already answered in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
In an interview with Time Out, Ridley said she thought the previous film held a lot of clues about Rey's heritage.
"I thought a lot was answered in 'The Force Awakens.' Then after the screening I went for a drink with my agent and everyone and we were chatting away and I realized that 'oh, in their minds it's not answered at all!'"
Well, there's no doubt that she probably knows a lot about Rey's backstory. She's playing the character after all. What she said may be true, but there's also a chance that she's just making things up. But Ridley likes the fact that people are actually curious about her character.
"I think curiosity is a wonderful thing. And I do find it quite funny that people keep asking about it. Just yesterday a guy asked to take a picture with me, and went "Is Luke your Dad"? And I was like, 'chill out, you'll see!'"
So, are there really subtle clues concerning Rey's heritage in "The Force Awakens"? Some fans believe she may be a Skywalker since Anakin's (Hayden Christensen) lightsaber flew to her hand instead of Kylo Ren's (Adam Driver). The lightsaber is like a family heirloom since it was first used by Anakin before it was given to Luke (Mark Hamill) by Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor).
Speaking of Obi-Wan, fans also think that Rey may be a Kenobi since he spoke directly to her during her strange vision in "The Force Awakens." Whoever Rey turns out to be, Ridley said she would love to see people's reactions when they finally find out the truth.
"Star Wars: Episode VIII" is scheduled to premiere on Dec. 15, 2017.
