The continuation of the "Star Wars" saga has resulted in the resurgence of the franchise's popularity, not just in film but in other forms of media as well. Case in point is the action shooter video game from Electronic Arts, "Star Wars Battlefront." With the release of at least three more "Star Wars" films in the next couple of years, EA has also confirmed that a "Star Wars Battlefront" sequel is in development.

Despite the massive popularity of "Star Wars Battlefront," it also received a lot of criticism due to the lack of content and a single-player mode. EA seemingly resolved this through the release of several downloadable content (DLC) packs. Thankfully, the upcoming sequel will also avoid falling into the same pitfalls as the current title.

"If there was criticism, they just wanted more. So were taking that criticism to heart as we build the next game and trying to address any of the issues that they had," chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen said during a recent investor briefing in Europe (via GameSpot).

"Star Wars Battlefront 2" is currently being developed by EA DICE and Motive Studios. While details for the sequel have yet to be officially announced, Jorgensen teased that it will be a "much bigger, much more exciting Battlefront." It is expected to arrive in fall 2017.

While waiting for the sequel, fans can look forward to the arrival of the final DLC for "Star Wars Battlefront," Rogue One: Scarif, arriving to Season Pass owners on Dec. 6. The newest expansion pack contains four new maps, including that of Scarif, the tropical planet featured in the soon-to-be-released anthology film "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." There will also be two new playable heroes — Jyn Erso and Orson Krennic. In the movie, they are played by Felicity Jones and Ben Mendelsohn, respectively.
