'Star Wars 7' Spoilers, News: Black Stormtrooper Sparks Controversy
When the trailer for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" hit the Internet last week, many fans noticed actor John Boyega playing the role of a black Stormtrooper.
Some fans questioned whether a black Stormtrooper make sense while other thought that racism has gone way overboard.
Amid the racist comments on social media, the actor has this to say: "Get used to it," which he posted in his Instagram account.
The complete Instagram message reads: "Thank you for the love and support! The fan mail and fan art has added to my job! Isn't it crazy that Star Wars is actually happening? I'm in the movie but as a Star Wars fan I am very excited! A year is a long time but it will be worth the wait."
"To whom it may concern... Get used to it."
Because of the continued racist remarks, the hashtag "BlackStormtrooper" has become controversial on Twitter. More people, however, seem to be supportive of the fact that a black guy will play as a Stormrooper in "Star Wars."
Writer Iain Macintosh tweeted: "They'll accept an alien-filled galaxy powered by 'force' but they're not having a black man in uniform?"
USC professor Robert Hernandez also said, "#BlackStormtrooper better not die first, or I am going to be pissed."
Some fans have argued that Boyega may not even be a Stormtrooper—he could just be a rebel in a Stormtrooper uniform. Fans continue to dissect what they can from the trailer since we all have to wait a year before the next Star Wars movie hits theaters worldwide.
