'Star Trek 3' Release Date: Film Slated for 2016 Premiere
Although the release date is yet to be confirmed by the Star Trek 3 production team, it is currently slated for release on 2016. Rumor has it that they will start filming in 2015.
Rumor also has it that William Shatner (who will be playing the role of James Tiberius Kirk) and Leonard Nimoy will be appearing in a cameo role for Star Trek 3. Both have released cryptic comments that sent Internet rumors up in the air.
In response to the rumors, director Roberto Orci left a comment on the comments section of Trek Movie, which read, "Love no win scenarios. In theory, damned either way."
He then added another comment that read, "Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor."
Perhaps this means that he does not want to divulge information in case he decides to edit the characters during the whole filming process.
Meanwhile, while Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman were originally the ones who wrote the screenplay for the first two films, only Orci will be writing for the third title, along with other collaborators namely J.D. Payne ad Patrick McKay.
As for the plot, Orci explained, "In 'Into Darkness' they set out finally where the original series started. The first two films – especially the 2008 Star Trek – was an origin story. It was about them coming together. So they weren't the characters they were in the original series. They were growing into them and that continues on in the second movie."
