'Spider-Man' Insomniac PS4 game news update: Will be playable on both PS4 and PS4 Pro, will follow 'more experienced Peter Parker'

Developer Insomniac Games says that the highly-anticipated "Spider-Man" game coming to the PlayStation will not be an origin story.

The company recently clarified on Twitter that the game will not tell the often retold tale of how the beloved webhead came to be. "We are showing a more experienced Peter Parker," the company stated on Twitter.

This "Spider-Man" game won't have anything to do with the upcoming "Homecoming" film featuring Tom Holland. It also would not take into account the Marvel Cinematic Universe or any film adaptations.

"Spider-Man" will be one of the first titles to be playable on the PlayStation Pro, which was revealed earlier this week. Al Hastings of Insomniac Games says that having it on the platform allowed them to make the most of the game.

"For our Spider-Man project we're really working as hard as we can to build a really rich, detailed version of New York City," Hastings said as quoted by PlayStation Lifestyle.

"And the amount of detail and improved fidelity you can get on a 4K display—especially a 4K display that has HDR—is pretty stunning. It's a real step forward. That's what we're most excited about," he continued.

Although "Spider-Man" is headed to the PlayStation Pro, it will also be playable on the PlayStation 4. Insomniac says that they are "not planning on leaving anyone behind." The studio also promised that the game will look "awesome on all PS4s."

"Spider-Man" has no release date yet although the game is already in a playable stage. "The game has always been playable. Playable for us working on it doesn't necessarily mean we are ready to show it," Insomniac explained.

With that said, it will be a while before players see gameplay footage of the title. However, the studio showed some in-game footage at the PlayStation Meeting.
