'Sleepy Hollow' Spoilers, Plot News: Fox Loses Another Key Man to CBS as Showrunner Quits

The future seemed bleak in "Sleepy Hollow" after the Fox supernatural drama series lost its point person Mark Goffman, who stepped down early this week, following the footsteps of former executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Rovert Orci who also left Fox and signed a three-year deal with CBSTV.

Goffman had been the executive producer and showrunner of "Sleepy Hollow" from its highly successful first season through its struggles for rating in its second season.

According to TV Line, he stepped down as showrunner following the Season 2 finale, which left many fans hopeful that the show would be returning to its former glory.

It added that the show lost an average of 3 million viewers with only 5 million fans watching the show in the second season after enjoying 8 million viewership in its first season.

Goffman left Fox's serialized drama after he signed a new deal with CBS Television Studios, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Under the agreement, Goffman will supervise and develop new projects for the studio as he is reunited with Kurtzman and Orci, who earlier joined CBSTV.

"We are thrilled to be in business with Mark. He is a highly regarded showrunner and has emerged as a unique voice that crosses worlds and genres," CBSTVS executive vice president drama development Julie McNamara said.

"We look forward to a successful creative collaboration in the coming years," she added.

Although "Sleepy Hollow" has not yet renewed for a third season, Fox TV chairman and CEO Dana Walden spoke about the studio's plans to fix the show during the TCA press tour.

Walden said they would like the show to be less serialized as it moves forward and have a lighter tone. That would all depend now on the new showrunner that Fox would hire.

The series is considered as a "modern-day adaptation" of the 1820 Halloween short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving with the added concept from Rip Van Winkle, also by Irving.
