'Sleepy Hollow' season 4 spoilers, updates: Ichabod heads to Washington D.C.? What we need to know before season 4 premiere

Following the exit of Nicole Beharie from "Sleepy Hollow," the Fox series is revamping itself, changing its cast, setting, and creative direction purportedly to inject new life into the upcoming fourth season.

The show would be three short of its regular cast after Beharie (FBI Agent Abbie Mills), Lance Gross (FBI Agent Daniel Reynolds), and Jessica Camacho (FBI Agent Sophie Foster) left the supernatural drama. Nevertheless, new faces are set to grace the show when it returns for season 4.

Among the new faces is "True Blood" actress Janina Gavankar, who was brought in to replace Beharie. Gavankar will play Diana, a Secret Service Agent. TV Line described the character as an unbeliever of the supernatural world, which is why she will have initial conflicts with Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison). Like Abbie, Diana is said to be headstrong, a go-getter with a sense of humor.

Also joining the cast is "Lost" alum Jeremy Davies who will play Malcolm Dreyfuss, an eccentric billionaire and new villain to Ichabod. The duo of witnesses will have Alex Norwood ("Awkward's" Rachel Melvin) and Jake Wells ("Empire's" Jerry MacKinnon) as their trusted allies in the fourth season.

Meanwhile, showrunner Albert Kim revealed the title of season 4's premiere episode through a tweet. Episode 1 will be titled "Columbia," perhaps a nod to the District of Columbia.

According to Yibada, "Sleepy Hollow" season 4 will be set in Washington D.C., as Ichabod will head there to join a mysterious organization fighting evil supernatural entities. Could one of these entities be The Headless Horseman?

A recent report hinted that a popular "Sleepy Hollow" villain will appear in one of the earlier episodes of the upcoming season. Apparently, that particular episode will be titled "Heads of State." The report has prompted fans of the show to assume that the returning villain is Abraham van Brunt a.k.a. The Headless Horseman (Neil Jackson), who only made a brief appearance in season 3's premiere and season finale.

"Sleepy Hollow" season 4 is expected to premiere early 2017 on Fox.
