'Sleepy Hollow' season 4 spoilers: Ichabod Crane finds new Witness; Network exec explains why series was renewed
Many thought they've seen the last of "Sleepy Hollow" after Abbie Mills' death, but it looks like Ichabod Crane has found himself a new Witness. The series is very much alive.
There was an uproar among fans of Fox's procedural supernatural drama when Abbie Mills' (Nicole Beharie) character died at the end of season 3. The character has been one of the driving forces behind the series, and fans thought the series will tank with Beharie gone.
Actually, Cinema Blend claims the series has always been in danger of being axed, with or without Beharie. Apparently, "Sleepy Hollow" is the type of series whose life hangs in the balance after every season.
The series' subsequent renewal for a fourth season is considered death defying, and hopefully, the entry of new Witness Janina Gavankar as Diana will save the series. For now, it will be sink or swim for Tom Mison, who plays Ichabod Crane, and the new faces the showrunner is bringing in, along with Gavankar.
Fox Entertainment President David Madden has earlier addressed the issue of "Sleepy Hollow's" renewal. According to reports, the writers and showrunner Clifton Campbell presented pitches that saw the storyline of season 4 undergoing a reboot, and apparently, Madden loved it. Obviously, the ideas were something new, something the series has probably never touched before.
Part of the reboot is Ichabod taking his battles from New York to Washington D.C. where he will try to save the world from old and new villains. In fact, "Sleepy Hollow" season 4 could see the return of the Headless Horseman. In addition to Diana, Jake Wells (Jerry MacKinnon) and Alex Norwood (Rachel Melvin) will be joining Ichabod's posse.
"Sleepy Hollow" season 4 will start airing on Fox midseason 2017.
